I returned to college in 1989 following the decision that Dun Laoghaire CBS was set to close within the next few years. Since the teaching environment in Dublin at the time had very limited opportunities for full-time employment, I thought it was appropriate for me to pursue a course of study in an area that I had tested for an aptitude in.
I had also enjoyed doing some programming to produce some statistical analysis for some field study undertaken during my undergraduate years in the Geography department at UCD. The Graduate Diploma in Computing offered at Athlone Regional Technical College (now Athlone Institute of Technology) proved to be a wise choice. It was a full-time course. I started in September 1989 and graduated in July 1990 with merit.
