After I qualified with my H Dip Ed, I decided to go to Greece to teach English. I worked in a small coastal village, Stilidia near Lamia which is about 200Km north of Athens on the mainland.
I used the opportunity of living in Greece to visit many of the places that I studied during my undergraduate course in Greek and Roman Civilisation.
I learned to ski during the winter on Mt Parnassos which is not usually associated with Greece.
Once the warmer months returned, the convenience of travel to Greek islands was something that I valued greatly.
My teaching experience in Greece was quite diverse. I taught the youngest children and oldest adults of my teaching career during my year in Greece. I could hear the success of my teaching when some of the students spoke with a slight Dublin accent.
